There’s also a risk of freezing in shaded areas, so even with snow tires, extreme caution is necessary. While it may look like we’re driving fairly fast, our actual speed is very moderate. As we learned in driving school, sudden acceleration and braking are strictly forbidden. When stopping, gentle pumping brakes well in advance are effective. On curves, slow down and focus on feeling the tires gripping the snow. Even with snow tires, tire chains are essential. Because the road narrows, maintaining a safe following distance and yielding to other vehicles is more important than usual.
