Extremely Delicious Okinawa Tempura Shop near Naha Junior High: Tempura Miyara

Closed on June 14, 2024

Tempura Miyara, which opened in October 2021 near Naha Junior High School, serves familiar Okinawan tempura. While this is just my personal impression, I felt they were very particular about their ingredients.

I tried the squid, fish, pumpkin, mozuku seaweed, imaiyu (a type of Okinawan savory sauce), and goya pork tempura. None of the tempura was oily, and the thin batter paired perfectly with the ingredients, allowing the natural flavors to shine through. The pumpkin was sweet and fluffy, and the addition of seaweed to the squid tempura batter was a big plus. It’s great as a snack, an appetizer, or even as a side dish with rice. They also have 100-yen soba noodles, which I tried on recommendation. The broth had a flavor and aroma I’d never experienced before, and you can choose between Yaeyama noodles and regular noodles. I thought, “This doesn’t taste like 100-yen soba!!” This is a restaurant where you can feel the attention to detail everywhere. Highly recommended.
