The following information is from 2022.

To get straight to the point, at both check-in at Narita Airport and immigration in Ho Chi Minh City, I was able to enter the country smoothly with only my passport (and return ticket if I didn’t have a visa) being checked.

It was exactly the same as two years ago. Negative COVID-19 test certificates and overseas travel insurance were not checked.

As of April 27th, the section for foreigners entering Vietnam had been removed from the Vietnamese health monitoring app, so it was impossible to input information. (The section for domestic travel remains, so while not mandatory, it’s convenient to input and submit it so that you can be tracked in case of an emergency.)

Regarding overseas travel insurance, it’s reassuring to know that you can easily go to the hospital even if you feel a little unwell. (I used it for a mild stomach ache.) More details are provided in the comments section.

On March 15, 2022, Vietnam resumed visa exemption measures for 13 countries, including Japan. The policy indicated that if a COVID-19 test taken before departure was negative, post-entry testing and quarantine measures would not be required. Subsequently, on April 27, 2022, online medical declarations were temporarily suspended. Then, finally, on May 15, 2022, it was announced that the requirement for COVID-19 testing for those entering Vietnam would be lifted, and obtaining a negative test certificate would no longer be necessary. Since this coincided with my planned trip to Vietnam, I decided to verify whether this was true.
