A Quiet Trip in Okinawa

A quiet trip to Okinawa with my mother.
This video is recorded mainly with natural sounds, minimal music, and drone footage.

We travel together once every few years.
During this trip to Okinawa, I sometimes found myself thinking that it might be our last journey together.

It’s not a loud or dramatic travel video.
Just the sea, the sky, popular places in Okinawa, and moments that quietly pass by.

However, the remarkable thing about my mother is that our trips have never become “the last one.”
Somehow, she is always the one who decides when the next journey will begin.🤣

[Currently only bento boxes available] Marumitsu Shokudo, Henoko, Nago City, Okinawa Restaurant 2021

Note: Currently, only bento boxes are available. The following description is from 2021.

Dining hall, parlor, zenzai (sweet red bean soup), bento boxes, izakaya (Japanese pub), karaoke, yuntaku (gathering). It’s all here! (laughs) Even the regular portion is already huge. Soba noodles come with rice. I declined at the time because I didn’t think I could eat it all. *Photography was permitted.

Naha, Matsuyama: Thousand Steak – Rich 500-Yen Menu, Perfect for Late-Night Steak

Note: Currently, only the Naha Sakaemachi branch is open.
Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/k3QjV5Rne39JU1658

The following is a description from when the restaurant was open.

A steak restaurant located in the bar district of Matsuyama. Besides steaks, they also have a wide selection of dishes for just 500 yen. They open at 5:00 PM, so they are closed during lunchtime. It’s a highly competitive area with many steak restaurants nearby, but I think their authentic lean steaks are second to none. The standard A1 sauce is good, but their original sauce is also very tasty. *Photos were taken with permission. *The music used was created using the automatic composition function of [MAGIX music maker 2022 Premium].

A&W Okinawa First Location: Nakagusuku Yagihara Branch (Exterior Only)

A&W opened in Okinawa on November 1, 1963, before Okinawa’s return to Japan.
At that time, the American company A&W had opened stores in Guam, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Two Americans, Mr. Adams and Mr. Burns, came to Okinawa from the Philippines and opened the Yagibaru store near Kadena Air Base.
At the time, there were no fast-food restaurants on the base, and the American community in Okinawa in the 1960s was already experiencing a car boom. Therefore, the Yagibaru store, which started as a drive-in restaurant, gained overwhelming support and became a great success. *Excerpted from the official A&W website: https://www.awok.co.jp/history/

Okinawa City: Specialty Cinnamon Roll Shop Brown Roll

This specialty shop sells delicious cinnamon rolls that will impress even the most discerning cinnamon roll lovers, but they also sell a variety of other items. You can add toppings to your cinnamon rolls, allowing you to enjoy your favorite “usual flavor” or customize it for a change of pace. Personally, I appreciate that they don’t hold back on the sweetness (lol).

They pair perfectly with their fragrant “organic coffee.”

The shop has a very relaxing atmosphere with lovely music playing, but due to copyright restrictions, background music has been overlaid. *Photos were taken with permission.

Okinawa City: Texas Hotel – Almost Unchanged Since the Vietnam War Era

This hotel has remained virtually unchanged since the Vietnam War era.
While its age is undeniable, the rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the quiet surroundings create a peaceful atmosphere, making for a good night’s sleep.
It’s conveniently located within walking distance of Park Avenue in the city center.
There’s also a private parking lot, though it’s a short distance away. The Wi-Fi was also good.
To put it simply, if you’re used to budget hotels in Asia, you’ll find this a very comfortable stay (laughs).
There are several similar hotels in the vicinity, but I’m not sure if they’re still in operation.
